The British government announced on Monday afternoon that non-league and grassroots football could resume once the second UK lockdown ends on Wednesday 2nd December.

As well as matches resuming, fans are also being allowed to return to grounds, albeit in limited numbers and subject to a House of Commons vote this week according to BBC Sport.

Clubs below the National League had been allowed fans in for much of the 2020/21 season following the first lockdown, but clubs in the Vanarama National League – including Berkshire based Hungerford Town, Maidenhead United and Slough Town – classed as ‘elite sport’, were banned from having spectators.

That all looks set to change, subject to the tier level of the match venue.

According to the BBC: “A maximum of 4,000 fans are set to be allowed at outdoor events in the lowest-risk areas when the four-week lockdown in England ends on 2 December.

“Up to 2,000 fans will be allowed in tier two areas but zero in tier three.”

It remains to be seen what tier’s the various areas of Berkshire are put in once the second UK lockdown ends next week.
