Isthmian League South Central Division One Ascot United have confirmed the return of Jamie Ashdown to the club.
The former Reading FC and Portsmouth goalkeeper is back in a coaching capacity to work with goalkeepers across the club.
A statement posted by the Yellas on social media said: “We are delighted to announce that Jamie Ashdown has returned to the club working with our Men’s First Team, Women’s Team and Under 18 Boys as a goalkeeper coach.
“The ex Reading and Pompey keeper will be a great addition to our set up, so we’re delighted to welcome him back!”
Ashdown played 13 senior games for Reading, taking the number one shirt from American Marcus Hahnemann following an injury – keeping hold of the shirt until his departure to Pompey at the end of the season.
He had previously joined the Yellas as a player in the summer 2022 having spent time coaching the clubs young goalkeepers.

By November, he was a key part of then manager Jamie Tompkins’ side that was top of the Combined Counties League Premier Division North and would go on to win the division and the FA Vase – although Ashdown would be ruled out by injury before the season ended.
At the time, Football in Berkshire wrote: “The Yellamen lead the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North by a point from Reading City and boast one of the division’s meanest defences in no small part thanks to goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown.
“Ascot have just beaten a club record 10 wins in a row in all competitions and extended that to 11 games at the weekend following a 2-1 win at home to London Lions.”
Ashdown’s professioanl career saw Championship and Premier League games for Reading and Portsmouth as well as an FA Cup win with the South Coast side, not to mention a UEFA Cup appearance.
