At Football in Berkshire, we want to expand our coverage to coverage more teams and more stories to a greater consistency and depth.
There are over 7,000 articles on the website right now and we’ve recently seen several new writers join us which has been a huge boost.
We really want to continue to grow this website and this group with people as passionate about the grassroots game as we are and ensure the website can celebrate its 20th anniversary in 10 years time.
In terms of a ‘job description’ then – if such a thing can exist for a voluntary role, here’s what we’re looking for.

About Football in Berkshire
Football in Berkshire is a dedicated website covering grassroots, non-league, and local football across Berkshire. We aim to give clubs, players, and supporters a platform by providing accurate, engaging, and passionate coverage of the local game.
Football in Berkshire is a volunteer-led grassroots football platform, created and run by volunteers. Revenue earned from our content goes into hosting our end-of-season awards night at Double-Barrelled Brewery in central Reading, platform costs and, just occasionally, sponsoring a player or two.
The opportunity here is to be part of a platform that, for 10 years, has championed the grassroots game in the county. We’ve covered the game from the local rec to Wembley Stadium, and everything in between.
The Role
The main thing here is that we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our knowledgeable group and take on coverage of clubs across the county. Whether that’s grouping the National League sides Maidenhead United and Slough Town together, owning coverage of Bracknell Town or becoming the chief of West Berkshire football – we’re even keen to find people eager to cover the historic ex-Berkshire locations like Wallingford and Abingdon as well as Buckinghamshire and North Hampshire.
We’re keen for writers, established or budding, to contribute match reports, previews, round-ups and features covering football in Berkshire. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to build writing experience, gain bylines, or stay closely connected to the local football scene. Perhaps you just enjoy writing and want to get involved.
What you can write about
- Write match reports and round-ups, previews, and articles for publication on the Football in Berkshire website
- Attend local matches where possible (or report remotely when appropriate)
- Come up with feature ideas
- Conduct basic interviews with players, managers, or club officials
- Meet agreed deadlines and maintain accuracy in reporting
- Communicate with the editor regarding assignments and ideas

- Regions: Ascot, Bracknell Forest, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor, Wokingham, bits of North Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Bucks and Surrey

- Historic moments
- Specific leagues and competitions with Berkshire entrants
- We’re open to suggestions!
What we’re looking for
- A strong interest in football, particularly grassroots or non-league football
- Good written English and attention to detail
- Reliability and the ability to work to deadlines
- Willingness to learn and take feedback
- Previous writing experience is helpful, but not essential; a passion for grassroots football is
