Thatcham Town’s Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup tie with Flackwell Heath at Waterside Park was postponed on Tuesday night due to a frozen pitch.
Sounds straightforward doesn’t it, BUT being the intrepid conspiracy theorists that we are at FootballinBracknell – we have a better explanation.
Here goes..
You might have seen a tweet from our friends over at the Newbury Weekly News that Tom Hardy was photographed in a Thatcham branch of popular coffee franchise Costa.
This is that very tweet..
The article suggests that the Dark Knight Rises star gave no explanation for his surprise visit given he is known (by Wikipedia) to live in London.
We know, Alex
However, here at FiB we reckon we know, and it coincides with the match being cancelled in Thatcham last night.
Back in September 2012, Get Reading reported that Waterside Park was being looked at as a possible location for a planned film based on the life of Reading FC legend Robin Friday.
The movie was to be based on a book by authors Paolo Hewitt and Paul McGuigan called ‘The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw‘.
The report said: “Hewitt and Reading FC historian David Downs scouted out Thatcham Town’s ground as a potential venue to film the scene where Friday was spotted by manager Charlie Hurley playing non-league football for Hayes.”
Guess who was tipped to play Friday in the movie? Go on..
That’s right Tom Hardy. Or Christian Bale.
Conclusion
Thatcham Town vs Flackwell Heath was postponed because Tom Hardy was in Thatcham filming football scenes for a Robin Friday movie at Waterside Park.
Hat-tip to @NathanHyde2 for his brilliant mind. Photo by Charles Roffey. More on the film here.
