Thames Valley Premier League side Burghfield have confirmed the return of Steve Melledew to the dugout following the departure of Liam Gillis.
Melledew left two years ago, eventually taking over at nearby Reading YMCA in the summer of 2025 before moving on to Newbury Town where he was joint-manager with Carl Jenner.
The new Burghfield manager was previously in charge of the Fielders for four years from 2020 to 2024, and in his final season, the club completed a Cup double, winning the Thames Valley Premier League Senior Cup and Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree Trophy – the latter in a memorable night at Slough Town.
Speaking on his return to the West Berkshire side, ‘Mellers’ said: “I’m delighted to be back home and working with the club once again. I’m excited to work with all the players, including those from my previous spell, the new additions to the squad and supporting the development of our youth players over the coming seasons.
“Burghfield is filled with great people throughout the club, and I am proud to continue developing the pathway into senior football. We have a strong foundation in place, and I’m looking forward to getting started and building towards the new season.”
The club confirmed in April that Gillis was stepping down from his role after two seasons, but remains as a member of the clubs committee.
Newbury meanwhile appointed all-conquering Westwood Wanderers boss Devonn Reid to lead their Thames Valley Premier League promotion attempt earlier in June.
