Hungerford Town’s status as a Vanarma National League South side came to an end on Saturday following a 1-1 draw with Dulwich Hamlet at Bulpit Lane.
The Crusaders have punched above their weight at Step 2 in that time after climbing out of the Hellenic League in 2009, ascending to the National League South in 2016 with that momentum seeing them finish 6th but missing out on the play-offs due to ground grading.
In 2019/20 the club avoided the drop despite finishing bottom due to the Covid interrupted season and following the appointment of Thatcham Town’s FA Vase-winning boss Danny Robinson in the summer of 2020, finished an impressive 12th.
This season though has been a battle to avoid the drop in an exceedingly competitive division with all four relegated clubs earning 40 points or more. There were certainly high points for the club this season including an FA Trophy run to the Fifth Round and wins against a number of promotion-chasing sides.
It could well now be a summer of change at Bulpit Lane with chairman Patrick Chambers departing the club to take over at Gloucester City.
