Luke Howroyd and Mark Lemm are up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Grounds Team of the Season sponsored by Calibra Tree Surgeons.
A brand new category for 2025 as we look to celebrate the carpets you play on week in week out, and the men and women that provide them. First up, we head to West Berkshire and Reading YMCA.
One nomination for the award said: “Both Luke and Mark have full time jobs but despite limited time, finances and equipment they are able to consistently produce a surface that is at a very high standard.
“Mark and Luke spend many hours at weekends and after work in the evening preparing the pitch and their dedication is beyond the call of duty.”
Another added: “Mark and Luke put in a lot of time and effort in creating what we think is the best private step 7 pitch in the area. Mark spends hours going around replacing divots and repairing the pitch along with regularly marking the lines. He does the dirty work whereas Luke gets a lot of credit due to the cutting and look of the pitch.”
Speaking to Football in Berkshire, Luke said: “Whilst I do take a lot of time out of the week to make it look and play well it takes both of us to make the best surface we can do as volunteers and on a small budget.”
