Former Slough Town striker Francis Amartey has headed north of the border to join Ayr United in the Scottish Football League Championship.
London-born forward Amartey had several spells with the Rebels making 35 appearances scoring six goals, including a loan-spell at the end of the 2022/23 season from Aldershot Town.
The Slough Town website called Amartey ‘a player who can play either through the centre or on the flank, was born in London and previously played for Beaconsfield Town and Flackwell Heath, where he scored 11 times in the 2017/18 season.’
Scottish national newspaper Daily Record reports: “Amartey, who moves from National League side Aldershot, represents the club’s latest raid on untapped corners of the English game.”
Amartey said: “It’s a massive opportunity for me and obviously comes with pressure, but that’s a good thing in my eyes.
“When I spoke to my agent about this move, I was clear that I wanted to come up here to new surroundings with new people and challenge myself.
“I see Scotland as a massive chance to come and make a statement. You look at other boys who’ve come up here and done really well for themselves – that has to be my aim. I want to step out of my comfort zone and going back full time again is the test I want.”
Amartey is the latest lower English league player to head to Scotland after Thatcham Town striker Daniel Fosu moved to Arbroath last summer.
