Newbury Town and Newbury Women Football Club have joined forces in a boost for the game in the West Berkshire town.
A joint statement from the club’s has been issued confirming a partnership offering support across coaching, resources and promotion, with the aim of women’s teams coming under the Newbury Town umbrella from 2027/28.
The game is certainly enjoying a resurgence in the town with the return of the men’s team to Faraday Road and looking set for a run at promotion from Step 7 under Devonn Reid this season. Newbury Women are members of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division Three West.
The statement published by both clubs says: Newbury Town and Newbury Women are delighted to announce a new joint sporting partnership, marking an exciting step forward for football within our local community. The partnership has been created to strengthen and support the continued growth of Newbury Women, with Newbury Town providing practical assistance and access to a range of various club resources wherever possible.
This will include additional coaching support, promotion across Newbury Town’s social media and communication platforms, and assistance with player recruitment to help the club continue to grow both on and off the pitch.
This partnership builds on Newbury Town’s commitment to expanding opportunities across all areas of the local football community. Following the successful launch of Newbury Town XLFC earlier this year and our community partnership with AFC Newbury’s youth teams, we are proud to extend that support to the women’s game.
Both clubs share the same ambition of developing football within Newbury and creating sustainable opportunities for players of all ages and abilities. By working together, we hope to strengthen the local game and provide a clear pathway for women and girls to enjoy and progress in football.
If this season’s partnership proves successful and both clubs are happy with its progress, we hope to move even closer together with the aim of establishing a Newbury Town Women’s Team ahead of the 2027/28 season.
