Bracknell Town have paid tribute to long-serving midfielder George Knight after he was snapped up by Enterprise National League South Dorking Wanderers.
Knight has been a Bracknell player since 2020 when returned to the UK following three seasons at Lander University in South Carolina where he played for Lander Bearcats.
As a Robins fan favourite, Knight scored 21 goals from over 200 appearances and was a key player as Bracknell won the Isthmian League South Central Division One at a canter as well as two momentous FA Cup runs only ended by Football League giants Ipswich Town and Cambridge United.
On Knight’s departure, manager Carl Davies said: “It’s never easy losing a player like George, but I’m absolutely delighted for him as he moves on to Dorking Wanderers. Since I came in, George has been nothing short of brilliant – his energy, drive and consistency in midfield have been a massive influence on our upturn in results.
“He’s a character who will be sorely missed. He’s a been a fantastic servant to the club, and the dressing room will definitely be a quieter place with him… and his questionable wardrobe! A top player and an even better lad.
“Thank you for everything, George – you deserve this opportunity. I’ll be keeping a close eye on your progression.”
Speaking to Wanderer’s official website, Knight said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be on board. A massive thank you to Marc and his management team for the warm welcome at training this morning. I’m really looking forward to kicking on and contributing to getting this club back to where it belongs.”
Bracknell meanwhile have moved to fill the George Knight-shaped hole in the squad with the addition of Connor Harris from Farnborough on loan until the end of the season. Described as “an 18-year-old box-to-box midfielder who stands at six-foot-two and brings a huge engine,” Harris is a product of AFC Wimbledon’s academy.
It’s been a period of change at Bracknell with manager Davies taking time to assess the squad since taking over in October.
Former Slough Town forward Francis Amartey and Shae Hutchinson have both departed while Jahiem Dotse (Wycombe Wanderers) and Jake Coomes (QPR) have both joined on loan
Several late 2025 signings include Marcus Johnson-Schuster from Basingstoke Town, Jack Mazzone from Chertsey Town and Sean Basaye on dual-registration from Burnham.
