Yateley United moved a step closer to the Thames Valley Premier League title on Saturday with a second 2-1 win over Finchampstead in a fortnight.
The leaders beat the holders 2-1 on the 2nd January at Sean Devereaux Park and took three points by the same scoreline on Saturday thanks to goals from Elliot Mitchell and Liam Whyte.
It certainly seems a case of when, not if, the North Hampshire side will take the title with six games to go and 19 points clear.
You can never of course rule out Finchampstead – the back-to-back title winners have the experience in the division but they are going to have to rely on other sides taking points off Yateley who have a 100% record.
The one team that could do some damage are of course Burghfield, who have pushed Finch all the way in the last two seasons. Due to teams dropping out of the Step 7 division they have technically only played six games – and have home and away ties to come with United on the 4th February at Burghfield Rec and 25th February at Sean Devereaux Park.
Off the pitch, Yateley have applied for promotion alongside Surrey Premier Division sides Lyne FC who ground share with Ascot United and Staines & Lammas who have taken on the mantel of Staines Town.
