Former Bracknell Town and Slough Town goalkeeper Mark Scott has apologised to Beaconsfield Town after accepting an offer to join Vanarama National League South Hungerford Town.

Scott left Bracknell at the end of last season after four seasons with the Robins saying: “I have decided it’s time for a new goalkeeping challenge while I’m still young enough.

“Thank you Kayne, gaffer, lads and fans for their support over the four seasons, I have always been treated well and felt part of the Bracknell Town family. I wish them nothing but success.”

He initially joined Step 3 Southern League Premier Division South Beaconsfield Town but it would now appear the stopper is headed to Hungerford Town.

Writing on Twitter, Scott said: “I just wanted to thank and apologise to everyone Beaconsfield FC I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel part of the group from day 1. I have the chance to play at the level above which was an opportunity too good to turn down and I wish you all the best this season!”

That ‘level above’ that Scott alludes to is the Vanarama National League South and Hungerford Town who were one of the surprise packages last season under former Thatcham Town boss Danny Robinson.

The Crusaders eventually finished 12th but spent a lot of the season in the race for the play-off places with a season-high of fifth place. That Robinson’s side also frustrated and upset a lot of the division’s ‘big guns’ was a bonus.

Revealing the signing, Hungerford chairman Patrick Chambers said: “Can see they will miss you and delighted you have agreed to join us Hungerford Town Welcome aboard.”

Moving back in to the National League, Scott will renew acquaintances with another former side, Slough Town, when they face each other in November and March.
