Reading City have announced a major addition to their midfield with the addition of a former Football League professional at Scours Lane.

Charlie Allen has joined the club on what City’s twitter account calls a short term deal having last been with Farnborough during the 2016/17 season.

Allen, the son of former West Ham United midfielder Martin, began his youth career at Brentford and Reading and won the League 2 championship with Gillingham at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Reading City boss Andy Findlay confirmed to Football in Bracknell that Allen would be available for the next month.

City have started their Hellenic League Premier Division season with a bang, winning all three of their fixtures and scoring 12 times. The only blemish is was the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round defeat to Chipping Sodbury in a replay.
