On Wednesday evening Aldermaston hosted Bagshot in the Combined Counties League Division One at the Stacatruc Stadium.
The Atom Men started strongly and were having a lot of success attacking down the flanks which led to chances for Kamil Zielinski, Kai Parton-Edey and Theo Bossman inside the opening 20 minutes but their efforts were either off target or did not overly trouble the keeper.
On 35 minutes Aldermaston won a corner and the ball into the box was met by captain Jamie Porter whose powerful, downward header was only kept out by a great reaction save from Shaun Patrick in the Bagshot goal.
As the half went on Bagshot grew into the game and just before half time they had a great chance to take the lead when a free kick found Edmonson unmarked in the box, but the striker’s header went over the bar, much to the relief of the home faithful.
After the break the game continued in a disjointed fashion with neither side getting the upper hand or creating much in front of goal, but midway through the half Bagshot were dealt a blow when stirker Luke Edmonson was adjudged to have dived in the Aldermaston box and shown a second yellow card.
Aldermaston left it late but they finally made their man advantage count 5 minutes from time and when the goal came it was worth the wait. Zielinski picked the ball up midway inside the Bagshot half, drove forward going past two defenders before drilling a shot from the edge of the box low into the bottom corner.
Late on substitute Bradley Quattromini had the chance to put the game beyond doubt when a cross found him unmarked in the box, but he was unable to direct his header on target. It didn’t matter though as the Atom Men saw out the game to record their fourth win of the season.
The win sees Aldemaston climb a place in the table to 16th whereas Bagshot remain at the foot of the table.
