A last-minute strike from Thomas Browne handed all three points to Mortimer in the West Berkshire Thames Valley Premier League tie on Saturday. Burghfield had been 2-0 up with ten minutes to go, but a rousing fightback from Mortimer saw the away side score three goals in a dramatic ending to the tie that ended with both sides down to ten men.

Burghfield’s first-half goals were scored by Chris Ward and Oliver Browne with the Mortimer goals scored by Douglas Groves, Sam Kalius and Thomas Browne.

Cookham Dean and Wraysbury Village played out a 1-1 draw at the Alfred Major Recreation Ground. The home side’s goal was scored by Jordan Brown with Matthew Andrews scoring for a Wraysbury side who ended the game with nine men.

Maidenhead Town lost for the first time this season against Finchampstead at Bisham Abbey on Saturday. It was the second time the two teams have met in the league this season, the first tie being a 2-2 draw on the opening day. This time the game was more one-sided with Finch taking all three points. Finch’s goals were scored by the prolific James Payne, Dylan Chaffin and 16-year-old Callum Vallance. Things don’t get any easier for Town as they have a difficult trip to Newbury to contend with next Saturday.

Both Marlow United and Woodley United Royals are still searching for their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw between the sides. Charles Draper was the goalscorer for the home side with Woodley’s goal a late strike from Adam King.

Newbury earned their first victory of the season on Saturday with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Windlesham & Chobham. Daniel Langford scored twice for Newbury with another coming from Jesse Bowers. Luke Cookham scored Windlesham’s consolation goal.

Berks County were impressive winners at Reading City U23s on Saturday. Ebbie Opuko-Ware, an own goal and a John Swift brace handed all three points to the Swords who are the only club with a 100% record having won both of their league fixtures so far this season. County play their first fixture at Binfield’s Hill Farm Lane ground on Saturday when Westwood Wanderers are the visitors.

There was a first victory of the season for Richings Park who won 2-1 at Westwood Wanderers. Goals from Tomas Kenton and James Ward gave Park all three points. The home side’s goal was scored by Devonn Reid.
