Sanchez Commock was the man of the moment for Binfield in the Perpetua Press Hellenic League Floodlit Cup Final on Monday night as the Moles beat Thatcham Town 2-1 at Stag Meadow.

It was supposed to be the first of three glorious cup finals for the Kingfishers culminating in the FA Vase final at Wembley in 20 days time – but Binfield had other ideas and put to bed the run of five final defeats in a row.

Commock was a menace up front all game and could have scored when he tried to poke the ball through Thatcham goalkeeper Chris Rackley’s legs. He did get on the score sheet though after 15 minutes heading home Sean Moore’s cross.

The opener certainly wasn’t against the run of play but Binfield defended well and you would always expect Thatcham to score – they’ve only failed to score in three games this season – however the second half began with Commock doubling the lead with a sublime strike.

Binfield weathered the storm and full credit to Henry Craven in the Moles goal as he dealt ably with everything thrown at him. Danny Robinson’s blues rotated through their strikers but it took a penalty from Shane Cooper-Clark in the closing minutes to finally breach the Moles defence which then held firm as the final whistle blew.
