Ed Jackson-Norris is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Manager of the Season (Women’s Game).
added: “When Ed Jackson-Norris took on the job of manager at Maidenhead United Women in September 2022 he walked into a club who had had to ask the FA Women’s National League to delay the start of their season due to difficulties in recruiting a manager and players. At times in the first half of 2022/23 Ed had a squad of twelve players and the side won won only one of their first nine league matches of the season.
“Fast forward eighteen months to the closing stages of 2023/24 and Ed – who ultimately led the side to safety with a game to spare against all odds in 2022/23 – has taken the team to a club record FAWNL points tally and retained their status in Tier 4 alongside some financially well-backed clubs with three games still to play. Under Ed in 2023/24 the side have set a club record FAWNL goals tally for a season and also enjoyed an epic FA Cup run to the Second Round proper for the first time in club history.
“But there is more to the team under Ed’s tenure than just impressive stats. The team have developed a heart, identity and hunger which has seen them come from a losing position to take a positive result in an incredible nine games this season. The campaign may even still end on silverware as the side are through to the Combined Counties Cup Quarter-Final. Were that not enough, United have inaugurated for the first time ever a Development team in the FAWNL Reserve South East Division which has been so successful that an incredible fifteen players have debuted for the first team this season having played minutes for the MUWFC Development side. Ed and his management team are giving opportunity to more and more young local players to be involved with a team which have began to establish themselves as a destination club and a leading non-professional light in local women’s football.”
