It’s tight at the top in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division Three South with local rivals Finchampstead and Yateley United battling it out for the title.
Throw in a possible challenge from Harefield United with two games in hand and it’s a proper scrap for the title.
Finch have the upper-hand at present, leading on 39 points from 14 games over Yateley’s 35 from the same amount, but the two sides have to meet again at Sean Deveraux Park before this race is run.
Yateley won the reverse fixture at the Memorial Ground 4-3. The division’s top-scorer Lauren Smaje scored twice on the day and the Finch goal sensation alongside similarly free-scoring Chloe Bagshaw will likely have plenty to say on the destination of the trophy.
For Finch, winning a title in the team’s first season will be a triumph of vision that looks set to grow the women’s football offering in 2024/25 with a reserve team at the club. And for the players, many of whom finished third as Shinfield Rangers in the same division last season it will only highlight the teams growth and improvement.
IN the TVCWFL Development Division, Berks County Women are pushing all the way for a title of their own. The Swords and Rotherfield United are 14 points clear of the chasing pack which includes Wokingham & Emmbrook. County won their most recent tie 9-0 with Kiah Owen and Lucie Harvey grabbing two goals each.
IN Division 2, S4K’s survival hopes took a knock with a 2-1 defeat at Kingsclere. Michelle Melia’s side have a week off before a home tie against Harwell & Hendred where a win could just about see them safe.
IN Division 1, Tilehurst Panthers cup exploits mean they have some ground to make up on Slough Town at the top – who themselves won 2-1 at Goring United. The Panthers have four games in hand on Slough with nine points between them. Slough have six games left to play.
