Mary Earps wins 2023 BBC Sports Personality Award

Former Reading FC Women goalkeeper Mary Earps is at Media City in Salford on Tuesday night where she is favourite for the 2023 BBC Sports Personality Award.

UPDATE: Mary Earps wins BBC Sports Personality 2023, following on from Lionesses team mate Beth Mead in 2022.

The England Lionesses hero is on a six person short list with cricketer Stuart Broad, jockey Frankie Dettori, wheelchair tennis star Alfie Hewett, heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and golfer Rory McIlroy.

The Manchester United stopper has had quite the year, taking on sportswear giant (and winning) Nike over the availability of her England replica shirts, playing in a World Cup Final with England winning the tournaments Golden Glove. She also won the Fifa Best Goalkeeper award in 2022.

Before becoming the Lionesses number one, Earps was Reading’s go to ‘keeper between 2016 and 2018, leaving to join VfL Wolfsburg in Germany.
