Combined Counties League Premier Division North Reading City have announced a number of retained players including captain and joint-top scorer Stefan Brown.

The former Basingstoke Town and Wealdstone forward joined the Cityzens last summer and made 29 appearances scoring 14 goals as Reading finished sixth in the table, four points outside the play-off places.

A statement on the club website said: “As both a leader on and off the pitch, Stefan’s influence was invaluable throughout the season, combining his goalscoring ability with his experience and commitment to the club’s ambitions.

“His return provides another significant boost as preparations continue for the new season, and everyone at Reading City is delighted to welcome Stef back to RG30.”

Meanwhile, manager Simon Johnson has been able to sign-up a number of the clubs stars from last season including long-serving goalkeeper Charlie York as well as another Cityzens ‘veteran’ Ellis Cowd.

Luke Donville, Joel Valentin, Oli Bourne, Mo Ceesay, Ben Holder and youngster Riley Denny are the other players so far confirmed.

The Cityzens have also signed midfielder Lewis Hayden from Milton United and added Brian Harris as the clubs new Assistant Manager.

At the weekend, Reading City took part in the inaugural AFC Aldermaston Invitational Trophy where they beat Tadley Calleva on penalties in the semi-final but lost 1-0 to Whitchurch United in the final.
