This Saturday sees Finchampstead play in the Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree Trophy. This competition is the cup for clubs in Steps 7 and 8 of the non-league pyramid.

Like its senior counterpart pairing Berkshire’s Bracknell Town and Buckinghamshire’s Marlow, the two clubs in the Charles Twelftree Trophy final are from different counties, with Old Bradwell United hailing from Bucks.

Old Bradwell United are currently fourth in the Spartan South Midland Division Two, however they have a large number of games in hand on the leaders New Bradwell St Peter. They have a remarkable eight league fixtures to play after the cup final and won’t finish their league season until late May. The fixture congestion means that they will be playing on the Thursday before the cup final.

The Buckinghamshire side have had a remarkable run in the cup this season and have so far not conceded a goal in the competition. In their five matches they have scored forty goals to no reply, winning two fixtures by eleven goals to nil in the process. In their semi-final, Old Bradwell defeated their opponents by nine goals to nil.

Finchampstead may have relinquished their Thames Valley Premier League crown to the all conquering Yateley United from Hampshire, but they will still provide forimdable oppositon to a clearly outstanding Old Bradwell United side. Ordinarily we are not supposed to be biased on Football in Berkshire, but we obviously wish Finch all the best as they head into the final on Saturday.

The Charles Twelftree Trophy final takes place at Flackwell Heath FC on Saturday 22nd April, with a 3pm kick off.
