Reading FC Women’s 2022/23 season got off to a disappointing start to the FA Women’s Super League after going down 4-0 to a strong Manchester United team on Saturday.

Andrew Belt has posted his player ratings. Read his match report here, and talking points here.

Grace Moloney – 6 – Reading’s player of the match, Moloney came up with Reading’s most notable contribution to the game, repelling Lucia Garcia impressively and also did well to
stop Leah Galton early in the second half. Appeared unlucky with the penalty decision.

Deanna Cooper – 5 – Unable to impose herself against Manchester United’s incisive attack.

Emma Mukandi – 5 – Not the return to action the captain would have wanted. Like Cooper, struggled to impose herself.

Gemma Evans – 6 – In the thick of the action with United’s Spanish duo running rampant on the right-hand side. Made a few important interventions.

Amalie Eikeland – 5 – Overrun in midfield.

Sanne Troelsgaard – 5 – A leggy performance in comparison to the energy provided by United’s high-playing midfielders.

Rachel Rowe – 6 – Good on the ball when she could get a few touches. Caused panic in United’s penalty area from an enticing inswinging corner in the first half.

Lily Woodham – 5 – Given the runaround by Batlle on the wing but showed glimpses of her quality when on the ball. Lost her cool when lunging in to receive a yellow card.

Deanne Rose – 6 – Until her injury cut short her appearance on 25 minutes, Rose was Reading’s brightest spark.

Charlie Wellings – 5 – Ran hard on her debut but unable to get many touches in the ball as United dominated possession.

Lauren Wade – 5 – Another player making her debut, the Northern Irishwoman found good spaces on the left wing but couldn’t make her possession count.

Reading FC Women substitutes:

Natasha Dowie – 6 – An early sub on for the unfortunate Rose, Dowie held the ball up well and was an effective outlet for Reading with possession for the visitors precious.

Tia Primmer – 5 – Ran hard over the 30 minutes she was given but to little effect with the ball remaining in Reading’s half for the most part.

Madison Perry – N/A – A debut for Perry coming on in the 90th -minute for Wade.
