Something a little different this midweek as Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North Windsor play host to the Anguillan National Team on Tuesday night at Stag Meadow.
Regular readers of Football in Berkshire will be aware of the Royalists connection to the Caribbean nation through Luke Paris, while neighbours Binfield include his international team mate Kian Duncan regularly in their starting 11.
While Paris has been confirmed to feature, FiB would speculate Duncan may well be with Binfield for their Wednesday night away fixture at Guernsey.
A statement to FiB from Windsor on the fixture revealed the game came about through Paris’s connection and the game is one of several the Anguillan team will play in the UK: “Anguilla have taken the game seriously with them flying four of the Anguillan FA including the chairman over to watch the game, they are then playing a behind closed doors friendly against British Virgin Islands on Thursday.
“Currently Luke Paris will be playing one half for Windsor and one half for Anguilla.”
Anguilla certainly aren’t the first or only international side to come and play matches in Berkshire, in the summer of 2019 the Kuwaiti national team played a series of fixtures against Maidenhead United, Marlow and Hungerford Town.
In April 2021 Football in Berkshire spoke to former Trinidad & Tobago international Brent Sancho about why Anguilla were targetting Berkshire based players and you can read that interview here.
