Carl Davies called it an ‘extraordinary week’ for Bracknell Town, and it’s hard to disagree as the Robins received news of international call ups and a cup draw against an EFL Championship side.
The Robins boss was looking back at a week that saw Liam Ferdinand in the main 16 and Joe Grant on the contingency list for an FA England trip to the Falkland Islands for an ‘ambassadorial fixture’ as well as the news that Larges Lane would play host to Reading Football Club in the second round of the Berks & Bucks County FA Senior Cup.
Davies said: “It’s been an extraordinary week for all the right reasons. Couldn’t have hoped for a better draw in the next round, a lot of our supporters watch Reading also so that adds to it all. Hopefully it’ll be a good spectacle with a happy ending for the Robins.
“Add to that the call ups for both Liam and Joe and it’s ‘pinch yourself’ time. I’m absolutely over the moon and immensely proud of both of them. I know they can’t wait and I’m sure they’ll do themselves and the town proud.”

The County Cup draw with Reading has certainly sparked the imagination amongst supporters with news of the draw, and fixture date published on Football in Bracknell being one of the most read of the last week, and most commented on, on the facebook page.
In terms of the call ups, the Bracknell News reported this week that local luminaries were queuing up to congratulate Ferdinand and Grant.
Bracknell MP Doctor Philip Lee said on the back page: “BTFC have done so much over the last few years to improve the standard of facilities at the club. Hopefully this will be the first of many such milestones to come.”
Bracknell Town Mayor, Councillor Sandra Ingham and the Mayor of Bracknell Forest, Councillor Alvin Finch both added their congratulations to the duo.
Speaking to Football in Bracknell, striker Ferdinand said he was ‘still a little shocked’ while Grant said: “Just to be considered to represent your country at any level is an honour!”
