You may see a flood of red shirts across Bracknell Forest on Saturday morning as players, parents, volunteers and supporters of Binfield Football Club come together to raise money for CRY UK and ensure they are in peak-condition for football’s return after Lockdown 2.
Right from the clubs under 7s through to the senior team, coaches, parents, siblings and all members of the Binfield FC family will be attempting to run or walk a combined 10,584 miles from Hill Farm Lane to Bondi Beach in Australia from 10am – in a socially distanced setting.
Writing on JustGiving, organiser Darren Eaton said: “As well as keeping ourselves healthy, we would like to take the opportunity to also raise funds for our club charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
“Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. With your donation, CRY can reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. By supporting CRY you will help save young lives from these potentially fatal cardiac conditions.”
The Moles have a long-standing relationship with the charity dating back to 2011 and the event has taken on extra meaning for the club with the news that one of their young players had recently been taken ill.
The initiative, as well as boosting the mental health and fitness of its members, is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity. The Moles are already 47% toward their total. If you’d like to make a donation to the cause you can do so here at www.justgiving.com
Binfield chairman Bob Bacon said: “During lockdown, the whole club has ground to a halt again. However Under 16’s coach Darren Eaton came up with an idea to get us moving. We are permitted daily exercise so he’s challenged us all to run or walk a distance the equivalent of Binfield to Bondi Beach in Australia.
“As an incentive, we will be contributing to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) which is a charity the club has had a long association with. The goal is to raise £1,000.”
