The new Windsor football club and the questions we’re all asking

A press release dropped on Tuesday evening announcing the formation of a new club in Windsor

Tuesday evening saw the bombshell news that a new football club in Windsor was taking over the lease at the historic and famous Stag Meadow ground.

The new club, formed from a consortium of Windsor Youth FC and former Windsor & Eton player and Windsor FC manager Mark Cooper, announced in a press release the Crown Estate had agreed a lease with the new entity for the 2023/24 season.

A key bit of information was the installation of an artificial surface at the club. Something already carried out successfully on Crown Estate land at Ascot United.

The press release of course raises some obvious questions which we’ll put to Mr Cooper in due course including:

  1. The presumption is this makes Windsor FC homeless?
  2. Presumption again, but the new club could not take the league position of Windsor FC, so where will it start?
  3. Are there plans for an adult women’s team in the new club?
  4. Does this mean the end of the Union Jack kit design?
  5. Who will be the senior clubs manager?
  6. What will the new club be called?
  7. What happens to Virginia Waters tenancy?

Football in Berkshire will put these questions to Mr Cooper in due course.
