Callum Bunting will be looking to maintain his rich vein of form when Binfield play Cinderford Town in the first round of the Buildbase FA Trophy at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday.
The 6ft 4in striker is currently on the 10-goal mark, having netted in each of the last seven games, including the two Trophy qualifying round ties at North Leigh and Herne Bay.
Speaking to Football in Berkshire after the 2-0 win at Herne Bay, Bunting was “over the moon with his goal” but was quick to praise his teammates.
“The boys were fantastic again. They always turn up with so much confidence for these games,” he said.
“They did so well last season (in the FA Vase) and go into games as underdogs, but they work so hard and always come out on top. Hopefully, that will continue.”
Bunting, 24, is setting his sights on at least 25 goals this season and commented: “My best is 26 which came when I was at Basingstoke and it would be great if I can beat that. But the most important thing for me is to help the team to win, the goals are a plus.”
He joined the Moles from Uxbridge and is looking forward to going back there with Binfield on December 4th.
Currently, the sides are both in the top three behind Bracknell in the South Central Division with Binfield having made a good recovery from losing early season games to Basingstoke and Bracknell as they adjusted to life in the Isthmian League for the first time.
“It was a step up for us but we are adapting to it well so far,” said joint-manager Carl Withers.
“Across the club, me and Doddsy (Jamie McClurg) and the players have all had to raise our levels. We had to find our feet quickly, but we learned from the Basingstoke and Bracknell games.
“We brought in new players and they have added experience to the squad and have fitted in well.
“We have been riddled by injuries and that is why you need a decent squad, which we now have thankfully.
“The quality we have got in the team is incredible and you need that to be successful.”
Withers added: “We are enjoying being in the top four of our league but we haven’t played all of the top teams and so have some big games ahead of us. We are taking just one game at a time and looking no further than this Saturday.”
Following on from the Cinderford tie, the Moles have two successive Tuesday home fixtures coming up, against Hanwell on November 16th and Thatcham Town a week later.
