62-cap former England striker Emile Heskey is in Reading meeting fans on Friday night with the World Cup beginning in the USA, Canada and Mexico on 11th June.

The former Liverpool and Leicester City striker was part of the 2000s England side and played alongside David Beckham, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard under the leadership of the late Sven-Göran Eriksson.

Heskey will be in Reading as part of Grosvenor Casinos World Cup Preview Night with the team behind ‘The England Pod’ and host, Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge.

Tickets are £10 for the event on Friday 5th June (doors open 6pm) at the venue based on Rose Kiln Lane off the A33 in Reading.

The England Pod team have been building up to the World Cup with a series of episodes including all the permutations that England could face on the way to the Final, Thomas Tuchel’s tactical masterplan as well as a preview of the Lionesses World Cup qualifier against Spain where a point would see Sarina Wiegman’s side qualify.

Heskey meanwhile is a veteran of two World Cups – 2002 and 2010 in South Africa – as well as Euro 2000 and 2004. He scored the fifth goal as England routed Germany 5-1 on the way to qualify for the 2002 World Cup.

His club playing career saw him breakthrough at Leicester at the age of 17 in 1995. He went on to play over 150 times for the Foxes before a move to Liverpool in 2000 where he played 150 times.

After Liverpool, Heskey’s career included spells at Birmingham City, Wigan Athletic, Aston Villa, Newcastle Jets in Australia and Bolton Wanderers before retiring in 2016.

Heskey made his England debut against Hungary in 1999. He was capped at under 16, under 18 and under 21 level for the Three Lions and retired from international duty in 2010 following the World Cup.

He is currently Head of Football Development with Leicester City Women.
