Bracknell Town announce new manager

New boss has a long history with Robins in a playing and management capacity

Jon Underwood has been appointed the new Bracknell Town manager following the departure of Jordan Ive from Bottom Meadow.

‘Unders’ appointment marks a return to the club where the former joint-Slough Town boss played, captained and ended his career at before taking over in the dugout from Alan Taylor.

That spell was relatively short by Underwood’s standards in 2007/08 season, he would go on to spend two seasons at Sandhurst Town before several years with Baker at Godalming Town and then an incredibly successful spell with Slough that saw the Rebels return to prominence both in the county and country.

Underwood won two promotions with Slough as a bit of a play-off specialist as well as numerous cup triumphs. Alongside Baker the Rebels made regular appearances in the Proper Rounds of the FA Cup.

The new manager has a reputation for creating tight-knit squads with longevity in players and has been known for giving chances to younger talent, most notable to Bracknell fans the now departed Dan Roberts.

It promises to be an exciting start to Underwood’s second spell in charge. The Robins have seen a number of players depart – including Jordan Esprit and Great Evans – but had a strong core of players, not least in goalkeeper Michael Eacott who must stand as one of the best stoppers in the Southern League Premier Division South.
