Reading FC Women goalkeeper Jacqui Burns will miss the FA Women’s Super League run in, the club has confirmed.
Specifying only ‘an extended period of absence’, the Royals goalkeeper has suffered an Achilles injury. It is speculation on our part but that would suggest the Northern Ireland internationals season is done.
Writing on Twitter, Burns said: “I appreciate the great support from the club and teammates and no doubt they’ll be there to push me through the process. Until then, I am ready to support the team for the final push in the season!”
Burns has been a revelation in goal for Reading this season, taking over from Grace Moloney for a period, but Moloney has started the last six games for the Royals.
Reading missed the opportunity to seal their FA WSL future over the last two games, taking just one point from six in their two games against relegation rivals Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City.
The Royals face a daunting set of fixtures as they battle for survival including games against Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa.
