Slough Town’s squad just got a little stronger after the club confirmed the return of a club favourite.

Johnny Goddard is back at Arbour Park after a short spell away with Vanarama National League South Boreham Wood.

Goddard had a superb 2023/24 winning an England C cap, Slough’s Golden Boot as well as Supporters Player and Players Player of the Season Awards. He also took home the Berkshire Football Awards Player of the Season (Male) Award in June.

That form caught the eye of the Hertfordshire side who were relegated from the top tier National League in the summer.

As well as playing duties, Goddard will also take on a coaching role at Arbour Park, manager Scott Davies revealed: “Johnny will be joining as part of the management team where he will be working in a player/coach role, assisting Alex Tokarczyk. Having had his UEFA A licence for several years now, it seems the perfect time for him to slowly make the transition into bringing his experience to the table, which I’m sure will be invaluable.”

Goddard himself said: “When the chance came around to return it was the easiest decision ever, and I’m looking forward to helping the boys build on the positive start to the season. Knowing the quality we have in the dressing room and with the players added over the summer I’m sure we can kick on and continue to do well.”

Meanwhile, the Rebels have seen goalkeeper Hugo Sobte depart for Farnham Town. A statement on the club website said: “Sobte made five National League South appearances without suffering defeat last season when covering for the absence of Dan Lincoln. He re-signed with the Rebels in the summer and later linked up with Farnham’s league rivals Westfield for regular game time. He made 15 appearances for Westfield this season, helping them to an impressive start to the campaign. We wish Hugo every success for the future.”
