Isthmian League Ascot United have announced the departure of the clubs third all-time top goalscorer, Brendan Matthew.

The forward joined Ascot in the summer of 2022 from Egham Town and scored 46 goals in 50 games last season as the Yellas went on to lift the Combined Counties League Premier Division North title and the FA Vase at Wembley Stadium.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the club said: “Brendan Matthew has decided to depart the Yella and we wish him all the best for the future. We shared incredible moment and goals together and he leaves as a Combined Counties Premier Division League winner, FA Vase Winner and Ascot United’s third all time top goal scorer.”

Matthew leaves big shoes to fill on the goalscoring front having hit the ground running in 2023/24 at Step 4 with Ascot, scoring 21 times in 26 games. However new signing Taylor Morgan eased back into the yellow and blue with two goals and an assist on his return to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.
