Welsh star Rachel Rowe is to leave Reading FC Women after eight years, despite earlier on Tuesday not appearing on the club’s released list.
The Royals had earlier on Thursday released a list of 13 players who would depart the club following the expiry of contracts.
As Football in Berkshire revealed earlier this month, dynamic midfielder Rowe was still under contract with the club for another season, but it would appear the move to part-time football has been the catalyst to depart after eight seasons.
Arguably one of Reading’s best and most consistent performers, Rowe made over a hundred appearances and almost 50 appearances for Wales.
Scoring some crucial goals as well, Rowe’s departure will certainly be one of the tougher one’s to take for Reading fans already smarting at the inevitable departures of long-serving favourites Grace Moloney and Emma Harries as well as manager Kelly Chambers.
Writing on Instagram, Rowe said: “8 years full of the highest highs, the lowest lows and everything in between but most importantly a lifetime of memories.
“A place that became a home from home and where I signed my first semi-professional & professional contract. You made my dream a reality.”
