Two-long serving Maidenhead United players will leave this summer as Ryan Upward and Adrian Clifton announced their departure.

9-years after joining the Magpies, midfielder Ryan Upward will seek a new challenge away from York Road after an injury-hit season.

Releasing a statement on Twitter, Upward said stepping outside his comfort zone would do him some good: “I feel it will probably do me some good to be quite frank. It’s a shame that nine years of loyalty to a club came down to a very short phone call but football can be cruel and it’s time for a new challenge.

“Stepping outside of my comfort zone is exactly what I need and I’m feeling optimistic about the rest of my footballing career.”

Clifton’s third spell at the club has also come to an end after 198 appearances. The Montserrat international spent part of last season on loan at Hampton & Richmond Borough and confirmed his departure saying: “I wish the gaffer and players the very best, most importantly the loyal supporters who embraced me every time I’ve played for the club.”

The Magpies have though moved quickly to tie youngster Christian Johnson down to a first contract having had an impressive season with Holyport, while Kevin Lokko has joined from Farnborough.
