Bracknell Town will be without the services of long-serving captain Seb Bowerman after the goalscoring winger signed for Vanarama National League side Dorking Wanderers.
Voted the best player in the Isthmian League South Central Division One last season as well as taking home the golden boot, Bowerman was also named best player in Berkshire at the Berkshire Football Awards.
The news of Bowerman’s departure will be another blow for Bracknell fans who recently saw popular manager Bobby Wilkinson depart.
For Dorking, it is a case of second-time lucky after the club were turned down in 2018 – despite reportedly offering a four-figure signing on fee. Now a top-tier National League side after winning promotion last season, Dorking will travel to Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
A statement released by Bracknell Town said the club could not stand in their star-players way: “On Tuesday night the lads said farewell to Sebber after an incredible six years at the club.
“When they [Dorking] came knocking a second time ten days ago, I sat down with Seb. I could not stand in his way; at 27 he is in his prime, and I could see in his face the opportunity to test himself at Step one was was too big a draw.”
This is bitter sweat, but I would never stand in a player's way of making the step up to Step 1. You have been an incredibly loyal servant of our club @BowermanSeb Thank you for the beautiful memories, and from every one of us, we wish you the very best of luck at @DorkingWDRS 🙌🏼 pic.twitter.com/aM9hdToFDQ
