Vanarama National League Maidenhead United have made their first move in the summer transfer window with the signing of richly experienced Woking midfielder Kane Ferdinand.
Ferdinand heads over the border to the Royal County just a matter of days after Rohan Ince made the journey in the opposite direction to sign for the Surrey club. Ince was a revelation for Alan Devonshire, having signed – initially on a short term deal – in November last year. The former Brighton man started 30 games as the part-time Magpies recorded a notable thirteenth place finish in a division that has an increasing presence of full-time former EFL sides.
Ince’s departure came shortly after the news was announced that long-serving fellow Montserrat international midfielder James Comley wouldn’t be resigning for the Magpies in 2021/22.
However, Dev has moved quickly to strengthen his options in the middle of the park. Ferdinand – cousin of former Premier League stars Les, Rio and Anton – made 40 starts and 1 substitute appearance for the Cards last season. His six goals – five more than Ince and Comley managed between them – included a headed consolation in the Cards 2-1 defeat at York Road back in April.
The 28-year-old has Championship experience with Peterborough United and has also featured in the EFL with Southend and Dagenham prior to racking up well over 150 appearances for the Cardinals and this signing looks to be another coup for Alan Devonshire after the Magpies retained the services of sought-after winger Sam Barratt at the weekend.
