The summer transfer window officially opens today (June 19th) for the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) and the FA Women’s Championship with some big signings expected across both leagues.
As for Berkshire news, Reading are certainly one to watch given the clubs players remain on furlough and the team saw an exodus of 8 out of contract players in the form of, Mayumi Pacheco, Millie Farrow, Jo Potter, Rachael Laws, Sophie Howard, Maxime Bennink, Remi Allen and Charlie Escort. Reading confirmed the news on the 8th of June following the FA’s decision to cancel the rest of the season on May 25th.
A considerable loss all round for the club but in particular, the departure of midfielder Remi Allen will be felt. Allen has played for the club since signing from Birmingham City in 2016 and has been instrumental in the team’s success including the promotion to the WSL during the 2015/16 campaign. The other significant loss is that of Charlie Estcourt, who saw herself move through the ranks of the academy, with a loan spell at Chelsea, before a return to club saw her break into the first team.
It is currently unconfirmed where any of the eight players future’s lie, but Reading boss Kelly Chambers had the following to say: “I would personally like to put on record a massive thank you to all the players; every single one of them has played a huge part in the success and development of our club,”.
Meanwhile, further down the pyramid National League side Maidenhead United are yet to make any signings but are on the recruitment drive, enquiries for the team can be sent to nev@maidenheadunitedfc.org. The club is also looking for player and team sponsorship.
