Newbury boss makes playing return to Hellenic League

Danny Langford announced his departure from Newbury in June

Fresh from leading Newbury to promotion back to the Thames Valley Premier League Premier Division, former manager Danny Langford has confirmed a return to playing football.

Langford was player manager as Newbury topped the TVPL Division One with 17 wins, two draws and just one defeat but announced he was leaving the club in mid-June.

Now the forward has been confirmed as a new signing for Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Langford – who has previously played for Binfield – had a tough time as boss at Newbury despite the league title success and was repeatedly hit with off field problems, not least the non-renewal of the clubs lease at it’s Faraday Road ground and being forced to play in Brimpton.

Speaking to the Newbury Weekly News in a piece published on 17th June, Langford said: “I leave the club in a much better position on and off the field than when I took over and that will always be an achievement for me.”
