Reading Women and England goalkeeper Mary Earps is off to Germany to join this seasons Champions League finalists.

25-year-old Earps has joined German side VfL Wolfsburg on a one year deal from Reading. Die Wölfinnen, as the club are known, were beaten 4-1 by Lyon in this season’s final.

Speaking to the BBC, Earps said of the move: “To be joining one of the best teams in the world truly is a dream come true,” said Earps.

“The team have had a great year, and I’m looking forward to building on that success this season.”

Earps – who has her own coaching business that has been particularly active with FC Bracknell,  has one full England cap and played 32 times for Reading between 2016 and 2018 after joining from Bristol Academy.

Wokingham Paper sports reporter Tom Crocker said on twitter that Earps transfer was ‘fully deserved’.

He added the move was a ‘massive blow’ to Reading but said that Earps had been one of the best goalkeepers in the FA WSL for several years and that it was only a matter of time before she was England’s number one.

FC Bracknell posted on their facebook page: “Congratulations to close friend and goalkeeping coach of NextLevel Goalkeeping on signing for Vfl Wolfsburg. Mary leaves for the Champions League runners up after almost two years with RFCW. On behalf of FC Bracknell, all the best for the future and thanks for your coaching clinics.”
