Maidenhead United put their managerial issues to one side to bounce back from seven defeats and a draw in their last eight games on Tuesday night.
The Magpies won 6-0 away at Salisbury in the Enterprise National League South, scoring more goals in one game than they had in their last 11 and ensuring Alan Devonshire’s last game in charge should be a full house on Saturday at home to Chippenham Town.
It is hard to know where to place this result. Letting the handbrake off? Show of support for the manager? Who knows but it’s been five years since the Magpies scored six in a game.
Goals came from Josh Popoola (2), Liam Dulson, Josh Umerah, Will de Havilland and Noah Stewart – the Northern Irish youngster scoring his first goal for the club.
Regardless your view of Devonshire’s departure, the big away win for the long-serving manager sets up Saturday nicely for the former England winger’s last match in charge – the home time against Chippenham Town at York Road.

Slough Town were also on the end of a stunning result, but the Rebels had to come from behind at home to AFC Totton.
Slough were 2-0 down in the first half but rallied in the second, thanks to goals from substitutes Jared Myers and Peter Ojemen.
The winner came from another sub, Johnny Goddard who converted a 90th minute penalty after Dan Roth was judged to have been tripped in the area.
