Scrolling through social media on Wednesday morning, you could be forgiven for thinking Slough Town had upset the odds and won there FA Cup tie at Grimsby Town.

That the Rebels eventually lost the tie 7-2 after giving the League Two side an almighty scare says much for the esteem Scott Davies’ side are held in by supporters.

Grimsby were 2-0 up in the FA Cup First Round replay after 16 minutes with Rebels defender Temi Eweka forced off with injury before Tyrese Dyce and David Ogbonna made it 2-2 by the half hour.

The hosts made it 3-2 on 45 minutes and also saw the influential Davies limp off on 70 minutes at 4-2. Fitness finally began to show for the professional side who added three more in the final 10 minutes to put some shine on what was in no way a straight forward FA Cup progression for the Mariners who had already been held at Arbour Park.

Post match player / manager Davies said on Social Media: “I’m extremely proud to manage this football club, with the staff and players that we have and the supporters that follow us. It’s a huge thanks from me.”

Meanwhile in the Southern League Premier Division South, Bracknell Town continued their good form with a 2-1 win at Dorchester Town, the goals coming from Joe Grant and Nana Owusu.

In West Berkshire Hungerford Town were pegged back to a 2-2 draw with Winchester City having lead 2-0 courtesy of goals from Brad Hooper and Conor McDonagh.

Former Binfield and Thatcham Town striker Conor Lynch returned to haunt his former club with Winchester’s first goal on the night.
