It’s becoming a bit of a theme with Reading Women of late. Go a goal or two down and stage an impressive comeback to earn a point or all three.
We can add another comeback to the list as Reading came from a goal down to defeat Tottenham Hotspur by three goals to one.
Reading had beaten Spurs 4-0 away earlier this season, however this game showed no signs of going the same way as both sides cancelled each other out in a tight first half.

It was the visitors who took the lead just after the start of the second half when Dutch international Siri Worm curled in a beautiful left-footed shot over Grace Moloney after a short-corner. It was a wonderful strike from Worm that left Moloney with no chance.
This goal seemed to spur Reading into action and the ball began to spend a lot more time in the Spurs half. They eventually scored a deserved equaliser when a Fara Williams corner wasn’t dealt with by the Tottenham defence and Jo Potter stabbed home at the far post.
Reading continued to pressure Spurs’ goal and the dangerous Remi Allen headed against the crossbar. Allen’s endeavour would eventually be rewarded in the 88th minute when she reacted fastest to an Angharad James header, knocking it past Spurs’ replacement goalkeeper Morgan. The goal sparked wild celebrations among the Reading players as Remi Allen became the bottom of a large bundle.
As Spurs pressed for a late equaliser, Reading broke from their own half and Amalie Eikeland streaked clear of the Spurs defence and the Norweigian international slotted the ball into the corner of Morgan’s net. A 3-1 scoreline perhaps flattered Reading slightly but they’ll be glad to end 2019 on a high.

It was a familiar pattern for Reading Women’s side. Going a goal down before a remarkable fight- back, and the set-pieces of Fara Williams being a dangerous weapon against any Super League defence.
Kelly Chambers will be relatively pleased with the club’s form so far this season. The club find themselves in 6th place after leapfrogging Spurs. They’re only behind giants Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenel, Chelsea and an in-form Everton. Chambers will however be wondering how she can convince her side to win a game one or two-nil rather than causing supporters, and herself, so much stress on the sidelines with late goal after late goal.
