Reading Women followed up their remarkable 3-2 comeback victory over West Ham last weekend to earn a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion with a late equaliser from Remi Allen.
The Royals took an early lead through Fara Williams MBE when she scored directly from a corner. While Fara Williams is well known for her goalscoring ability from distance and at set-pieces we’re not sure if scoring directly from corners has previously been part of her repertoire.
Reading couldn’t hold their lead for long and Brighton equalised a few minutes later from an Aileen Whelan header. And before half-time the home side scored another through Nigerian international Ini Umotong.
The Royals came close on a few ocassions and hit the bar twice, once through Remi Allen and another through Brooke Chaplen. They finally made the breakthrough late on when Allen hooked home from another Fara Williams corner. It was a shambles of a scramble and is unlikely to win any goal of the season competitions but it earns Reading another point on the road.
Reading will take positives from the game. It’s clear that there’s a lot of spirit in this team. This is the second game they’ve come from behind to win or draw a game. Kelly Chambers will also be delighted to see Jo Potter back from her long injury lay off.
Reading’s next game is a tough one at Wycombe Wanderer’s Adams Park on Sunday 8th December against third place Arsenal.
