Maidenhead United’s unbeaten run ended and Joe Grant makes Slough Town debut

Maidenhead United’s flying start to the Vanarama National League season ended on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 at York Road by Hartlepool United who picked up their first points of the season.

The goal came in the 53rd minute from Niko Muir who managed to beat Magpies goalkeeper Taye Ashby-Hammond on the rebound.

In the National League South, it was a third defeat for Slough Town who conceded a third minute goal at Concord Rangers only for Ben Harris to equalise after half time.

Parity didn’t last long though and Concord were back in front on 58 minutes and 2-1 is how it stayed.

There were strong words from both Neil Baker and Jon Underwood after the game which was notable for the second half debut of Joe Grant.

Hungerford Town were also on the end of a defeat after the midweek joy of three points at home. The Crusaders were 1-0 up thanks to a James Constable strike but couldn’t repeat Tuesday nights heroics and went down 3-1 to Maidstone United.

In the Combined Counties League Divison One, Sandhurst Town were 3-2 winners over Kensington & Ealing Borough with goals from Mitchell Cooper, Patrick Gardner and Bradley Brown while Eversley & California went down 2-0 at Westside.

Finally, in the Hellenic League Division One East, there’s a round up on Wokingham & Emmbrook’s Friday night here while on Saturday Chalvey Sports beat Wallingford Town 1-0 and Woodley United were beaten 2-1 by Abingdon Town –
