It looked like Ascot United’s dreams of a second semi final this season were all but over at 2-0 down with 30 minutes to go in the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup Quarter Final at Brackley Town Saints.
United boss Jamie Tompkin’s said his sides ‘desire was unbelievable’ though as the Yellamen scored four times in the final 30 minutes of the game to secure a place in the last four.
Ascot already have a cup final against Windsor in the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup to look forward to in May and are now close to reclaiming the Floodlit Cup trophy they won in 2016.
Harry Laflin started the fightback with a goal from a corner and then played in Harry Sheridan for a 77th minute equaliser.
Elliott Carey got the Yellamen’s third and Kai Walters made it 4-2 in injury time.
Ascot will meet East Berkshire neighbours Binfield in the semi final with Ardley United lying in wait in the final.
Elsewhere, Maidenhead United opened up a nine point gap on the relegation zone in the Vanarama National League with a 2-1 win over strugglers Havant & Waterlooville.
Ryan Upward and Adrian Clifton had given the Magpies a 2-0 lead but an 89th minute Havant goal made it a nervy end to the game.
Slough Town are out of the Berks & Bucks FA County Senior Cup after losing 1-0 to Marlow at the Alfred Davis Memorial Ground.
The hosts led 1-0 on 50 minutes and despite chances, the Rebels – two divisions higher than their opponents, couldn’t find a way back in.
Here’s a lovely Neil Graham video of the evening:
In the Combined Counties League Division One, goals from Luke Burrows, Charlie Oakley and Paul Rake gave the Fizzers a 3-1 win at home to British Airways and Wokingham & Emmbrook are out of the Reading Senior Cup, beaten 4-1 at Wallingford Town.
