Thatcham Town put in one of their best performances of the season to win 2-1 at Melksham Town in front of a healthy crowd of 431.

With a gusty wind behind them Jon Beeden put Thatcham ahead with a well taken first half header, unfortunately the defender picked up an injury which forced Danny Robinson into making a half time change.

Melksham equalised through a Jon Davies penalty on 53 minutes, the goal seemed to spur Thatcham on as they went on to create a number of decent chances with some intricate play.

Thatcham’s second half dominance was rewarded on 70 minutes with a goal from Kyle Tooze which sent the large travelling ‘Blue Army’ into raptures.

The win and the level of performance will give The Kingfishers confidence going into next Saturdays home game with Bideford, with nine games remaining a play-off spot is still within reach.

Hungerford Town remain in the bottom three of the National League South but will take heart after yesterday’s 1-1 draw at home to one of the leagues big boys in Woking.

Hungerford welcomed back former Crusader Mike Jones following his move from Chippenham Town earlier in the week, a good addition to Ian Herring’s squad. Alfy Whittingham gave Hungerford the lead on 55 minutes but Woking drew level shortly after through Josh Casey.

Newbury had a day to forget when going down 3-2 to Woodley United Royals in the Reading Challenge Junior Cup. Jordan Cox and Carl Jenner both scoring for Newbury in a game where The Town missed three penalty’s.
