Newbury missed out on a Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup semi final on Saturday after a rare defeat.
The West Berkshire side have a 100% record in the Thames Valley Premier League Division One this season but fell 5-4 to division rivals FC Imaan Lions at Sol Joel Park.
Newbury led 3-2 at half time through Grant Kemp (pictured) after nine minutes, Luke Gray and Terry Patton while James O’Doherty got the fourth in the second half.
However, a hat trick for Lions Aqeel Butt and goals for Sabeel Asghar and Aadil Asghar ensure it was FC Imaan who move in to the last four.
Disappointment for Hungerford Town on Saturday in the Vanarama National League South as they were beaten 1-0 by play off chasing Welling United.
The Crusaders – who had youngster Josh Elms on target for the County FA side on Sunday – are back in the relegation zone with the gap at four points, and the games don’t come any easier with a game at Bulpit Lane against second placed Woking on Saturday.
Rounding things off, Thatcham Town suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cirencester Town in the Evo Stik Southern League South Division.
Scott Rees had given the Kingfishers the lead on 30 minutes after the visitors had had a goal disallowed and Thatcham denied a penalty.
It was 1-1 five minutes before the break and 2-1 on 70 minutes.
Finally, some sort of fame for Thatcham defender Jon Beeden who featured in the latest When Saturday Comes newsletter. You can read it here. The full report from Jon’s unfortunate night is here.
