Woodley United’s 3-0 win over Newbury in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division on Sunday sent them to the top of the league.

The Kestrels have three wins from four games so far this season and though they top the division having played two games more, confidence will certainly be high for the newly promoted side.

Woodley’s goals came courtesy Jodie Penny and Sarah Thompson in the first half and a stunning hit from Maddie Sawyer in the second.

Ascot United earned their second point of the season, picking up a 1-1 draw at home to Barton Rovers. The Yellawomen conceded in the opening 10 minutes but Lauren Broadhurst hit an injury time equaliser to make two draws in a row.

In Division 1, Sandhurst Town’s home tie with Abingdon United was postponed while an Alice Lilley goal wasn’t enough to avoid a 5-1 defeat for Wokingham & Emmbrook to Wycombe Wanderers and Wargrave suffered a heavy 14-0 defeat to Moneyfields.

In the Thames Valley Women’s League Division 2 East Binfield were beaten 4-1 by Ascot United Reserves, the Moles started poorly but an Amy Martin goal right after half time brought them back in to the game at 2-1. A Sian Miller hat trick and one for Courtney Gibbons did the damage for Ascot though.

And at the top of the table Holyport were beaten 4-3 by Abbey Rangers Reserves.
