A double strike from Thatcham Town striker Gavin James was enough to beat Binfield in the quarter finals of the Bluefin Sport Hellenic League Challenge Cup on Tuesday night.

The Kingfishers Tom Browne had opened the scoring after 6 minutes but Binfield’s Harry Laflin levelled on 20 minutes a terrific looping header.

James though made certain his side would progress to the last four with goals either side of half time.

Binfield do already have one final to look forward to with a place already booked in the Floodlit Cup and will push hard to ensure they finish inside the top 6 in the league.

FA Vase finalists Thatcham will play Abingdon United in the semi final – though we don’t yet know if that is home or away, while Bracknell Town play Windsor in the other semi final on Thursday at Larges Lane.

After the match, Blues boss Danny Robinson tweeted some high praise for Roger Herridge’s young side.
