Freddie Barron gave Finchampstead all three points on a cold afternoon at AFC Aldermaston in a hard fought 2-1 Hellenic League Division 1 East win.
Finch started and finished the game strongly – remarkable given the bare 11 that turned up but Aldermaston scored first through Dan Alliston in the first half.
Chase Jewell levelled things up in the second half for Finch and Barron fired an unstoppable winner past Dan Smith after the ball dropped kindly for him from Jonathan Malone’s miss-hit.
Also in Division 1 East there was a 4-1 home defeat for Sandhurst Town against Headington Amateur’s.
In the Premier Division Bracknell Town beat Tuffley Rovers 3-0 courtesy of goals from Seb Bowerman and a brace for TJ Bohane.
There was a tough defeat on the road for Binfield who were beaten 3-0 at promotion chasing Thame United.
In the Berks & Bucks County Intermediate Cup quarter-finals it was a terrific afternoon for Woodley United who reached the semi-finals with a 5-0 win over Great Horwood. An own goal gave Woodley the lead and Danny Horscroft got two while Charlie Oakley and Toby Briggs also got on the score sheet.
And finally in the Thames Valley Premier League, Berks County ended their losing streak with a 2-1 win at Unity.
